Namecheap Introduces 100 Percent Uptime Service

Premium DNS

Most of us know what the Internet and a website are, but delve a little deeper into the technical aspects of the technology and it becomes the realm of experts. That is where domain name registrars and hosting companies come in to simplify some of the different aspects of getting a website. And once your site is open for business, you want to make sure it is always up and running. That’s what Namecheap announced it will do with its 100 new percent uptime PremiumDNS service with complete DNSSEC support powered by Verisign.

As the company’s name implies, Namecheap is going to offer this service at a price any small business or individual can afford, just $4.88 a year.  That is not a typo. But this low price is for the first year only. The renewal rate for PremiumDNS will be $8.88, which is still lower than its competitors.

The service comes from an ICANN-accredited domain registrar with over five million domains under management and more than 1.5 million direct customers.

Premium DNS

So what is DNS, and why should you get premium DNS hosting?

The Domain Name System (DNS) identifies each website and server using domain names. Without DNS, the Web address would be a combination of numbers, making it much harder to remember than the typical .coms and other url names used today.

Premium DNS hosting ensures your website is always or almost always accessible to your users depending on your provider, and the service level agreement (SLA) they offer.

According to the company, this is the most affordable option for site owners to scale their operation and secure it against hackers with DNSSEC support. Short for DNS Security Extensions, DNSSEC adds security to the Domain Name System. And as DDoS attacks continue to increase in frequency and severity, protecting the DNS is one way of ensuring it will not be an easily accessible vector for launching an attack.

The company is not only providing proven protection by partnering with a leading Internet security company in Verisign, but it is also offering a 100 percent SLA for the ultimate in reliability.

In a release announcing the new services, Namecheap’s CIO, Matt Russel, said: “Every production website should use some form of this product to maintain a high level of performance and availability to their customers. With this partnership, we are now able to ensure the availability of every domain at standards similar to those currently seen only among some of the world’s biggest enterprises.”

Against one of the most popular domain name registrars and hosting companies in the world, GoDaddy, Namecheap is hands down much cheaper. GoDaddy charges $35.88 per year and the SLA is 99.999 percent. The next company is Amazon’s Route53, and it is much closer with its price at $15.60 per year and a 100 percent SLA.

If you don’t have a high-traffic website, you might not need a PremiumDNS service. This is generally used by large organizations that want the performance and security enhancements the premium service offers. However, with hackers going after everyone under the sun these days, the price point Namecheap provides with its PremiumDNS makes a great argument for even the smallest of businesses to deploy this service.
